an odd weekend

friday, i went to see "hellboy" and get laptop fixed. or something like that. took PowerbookOfLove to local apple fix-it store here in town and they tell me "it's the bottom case. warped, you see. have to send it in." this, of course, threw me in to a panic. WHAT? SEND MY BABY AWAY?! so, i went to the apple store at the grove and hung out there to talk to genius bar kids. second opinion, right? so, while i'm waiting, sorta cute guy chats me up. we both commiserated our lack of life and "why are we at the apple store at 9pm on a friday with no chicks anywhere?" sorta stuff. and before you ask, NO I DID NOT GET A PHONE NUMBER OR EMAIL OR ANY SORT OF COMMUNICATION THING BECAUSE I'M LAME. yeah. then, after he walked away, genius bar dude confirmed case warping thing. *sigh*
oh, and "hellboy" was good. really just a good excuse to have movie candy, that.
also, if any of you in the l.a. area get the chance to drive north on highland, there is a gigantic prisoner of azkaban billboard at franklin and highland. in an effort to cut down on the gridlock at that corner, the ad folks have placed the trio poster as the billboard. had they included any poster with gary oldman on it, i know i would have caused QUITE the traffic jam.
smart, those ad folks. looking out for our safety, they are.
saturday was the FESTIVAL OF BOOKS (or as
notlefthanded said earlier BOOK FESTIVUS). pretty cool, although i didn't go to any panels this year, mainly because i couldn't get my ass out of bed in time. the only panel i wanted to attend was at 10a, and i didn't get there until 11. ah well.
items of interest:
- there were no books purchased by me at BOOK FESTIVUS. this came as a shock.
- i did buy this nifty bed desk thingy. it's pretty and red and will be great for when my PowerbookOfLove comes back home.
- comic book written by 15 year old kid with the cutest little penguin character you ever did see. i had to support him and buy a mug.
- it shocked me that the scholastic booth had absolutely NO HARRY POTTER STUFF AT ALL. hmm. perhaps they have an odd deal with bloomsbury?
- i spilled coffee on my white shirt before i even got into the FESTIVUS. this did not come as a shock.
after the FESTIVUS, i went to santa monica for LUSH happiness and apple store drooling. then i went to amoeba in hollywood and bought more jeff buckley cds (*places melodramatic hand across brow* if this be a sickness, then find me no cure! or something.) and the new modest mouse cd. modest mouse: so far, so good.
did fuck all on sunday. i did finally see "school of rock", however. jack black SO HILARIOUS. and let me just say this:my fellow pervs ladies, you can have the drummer kid, because it's all about zach the guitar boy.
yeah.
if i ever clean out my back closet, i may actually find the song that a zach wrote for me ages ago. that might be fun to listen to again.
i also watched "bowling for columbine". you know, if you ignore michael moore's methods (which I don't always agree with), and the fact that he tends to get caught up with the little things at times, there were some good insights to be had in this documentary. there were things i just couldn't watch (you will be glad that i don't go in to any detail about those things, really.), but all in all, i was glad i saw it.
then, i watched alias and queer as folk and wondered where the day went.
boy, do i know how to suck up 48 hours.
and it was fucking hot. wtf?
